What Customers Say

I had a guy come knocking on my door. Signs all over saying "no soliciting"... so I get it. He had a job to do. However, a phone call or email stating someone was coming out would be more appropriate than a guy, who was upset that I didn't answer. So a few weeks prior to this techs visit, someone had come to replace the meter. Apparently they go out very rarely. This was communicated then. A couple weeks later is when this other guy shows up. My dog was going nuts... which is why I have no soliciting signs up. Also because I have an illness that prevents me from moving quickly AAAAND I hadn't been up yet. Did I mention I have an illness? So my daughter comes over and asks him what he's doing and he tells her the meter is faulty. After I was able to get myself together, I went out back to verify. I tried explaining to the tech, that this had already been done, but he seemed to take it personal. The more I explained, the more he seemed to ignore me. So when I said something about knocking, he said, "I will be right back here knocking on your door if this one doesn't work!" No apologies for his rudeness, or for his knocking on the door and getting upset when I didn't answer. Things aren't always as they appear Mr. Tech. Try to think about others before you make snap judgements.

I’m from Denton years ago. I never had a problem with Denton electric And my friends that had kids they We’re able to keep electric on during hard times. Ever since a year ago, I lived in a house and two of my toilets were running My landlord was not helpful. I had to get it fixed myself denton electric billed me over $2967. I have a son . They didn’t care they cut me off because of that water leak at my old address and added it to my new address got 1200 on that bill and they still want more. They want half of it to get on prepaid or pay all to turn it back on they are horrible. I shouldn't have come out my pocket for that much but i know i have to have electric can’t wait to get out this town. It’s not home anymore. Because of this situation, I want to fight for it, something needs to change around here we should be able to choose our electric company because Denton electric is no more good for anyone, There were only two ladies and I’ve already complimented them for their help there that tried to work so hard for me and my son. Even one of the managers, but when you asked to speak to a certain person, they will not let you get to them they find every excuse .i will seek legal help for this also

I was billed extra fees because their meter malfunctioned. Customers should never be charged for a utility provider’s faulty equipment. Customer service was poor — no reliable callbacks, conflicting explanations, and a constantly changing story. Getting a straight answer took far longer than it should have. The issue was only resolved because I got exhausted dealing with it. This is exactly why monopolies are a problem… they don’t have to earn your business. If you live in the area, you’re stuck with them.

Horrible company, horrible customer service and horrible policies. They canceled our account due to a malfunction with the meter on their end which made our account seem past due. They then charged us as a new customer account even though we have been living in our apartment over 6 months. Customer service promised to call back to try and resolve the issue but never did. So, now we are essentially paying a fee that we already paid when we initially moved into the apartment. This is what happens when companies have a monopoly over an industry.

Extremely inflexible policies, despite pleasant customer service staff. Denton Municipal Electric charges a flat $20 late fee even when the bill itself is less than that amount. If a balance isn’t paid within 30 days, they will shut off electricity — even for very small totals. We manage an apartment community and recently transitioned the utility payer. Although the total balance across six apartments was under $210, power was shut off. To restore service, they now requires over $1,100 in deposits, calculated as two months of average bills. While the representatives we spoke with were polite and helpful, late fees can only be waived once per customer per year — even when the situation involves multiple apartments and a transition-related issue. One late fee waiver on one account meant no flexibility anywhere else. We paid everything after nearly a two-hour call and service was requested to be restored, but the lack of discretion, proportionality, and flexibility is disappointing. Shutting off electricity and demanding large deposits over such small balances feels unreasonable and punitive.
